For sale: Ecto-1

Since I started this with the DeLorean a couple of months ago, from the sell-old-tv-and-movie-related-cars-department, it is now the turn for the Ghostbusters Ecto-1. For a mere $150.000 this can be yours. It seems like Hollywood don’t want them anymore. Which one will be next? KITT? The General Lee?

The Ghostbusters Ecto 1 for sale is not the original movie car. It is a very accurate replica by George Barris, built on a slightly different 1959 Cadillac ambulance. The one in the movie was a Miller-Meteor “combination” coach: used as both a hearse and ambulance. The one for sale is a 1959 Cadillac Eureka combination. A subtle difference, but significant enough to disprove its authenticity. Just thought you ought to know. Most people believe it is the actual one from the movie. Unfortunately, the real Ecto 1 (and Ecto 1a from Ghostbusters 2) is sitting in an open lot at Sony Studios in California, rotting away. Sony won’t let anyone see it, let alone entertain any offers ($150,000 seems high for this one, but the real one would probably be worth a mint more).

Thanks Matt! You obviously know quite a bit more about the subject than I do ;)

I just wanted to add to this. Sony have recently spent thousands of dollars on refurbing ECTO 1. ECTO 1A was refurbed a while back im sure as it has been on display at one of the Universal Studios sites.

  4. I hear it needs some suspension work.

And shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear end …

    Also plugs, a little wiring.

    :-)
